I read through the latest Dev Diary`s on the instance scaling and noticed that the next diary is on the Great barrows instance, the last thing that was said in the diary noted that it is the first group instance new players do. This got me thinking so I thought I would put in my two cents on what they could do with GB and what they could do before a new player ventures into their first lotro group instance although I know its just a pipe dream.
I think everyone has been a part of one of THOSE groups, the ones that are doomed from the start, the ones with dps classes that couldnt care less about their aggro and dont know how to target and end up pulling hoards of mobs that cant be stopped or tanks that dont know how to hold aggro, healers that dont know their healing skills and groups that cant even get one FM right. Now in saying that I dont think most people do these things because they are incappable or even mean to do them, I think people are just misinformed or dont have the time to read through these forums or look for decent guides for group play.
My idea is to have a solo class quest that will put you in the GB instance with 5 npc soldiers like in the Gondomon skirmish with everything you would experience in a full fellowship, like when you trigger a FM it will stop the instance and give you a brief tutorial on how they work, what they are and how effective they can be. Then if you are a Tank class the quest will be about keeping mobs off your healer and explaining aggro generation and the skills available to you, a healing class will have to keep the tank alive and dps classes will have to avoid getting aggro while still doing damage. in the end you get a key to GB and can run it with a group and maybe a class specific skill or class specific gear as a reward. I think this could help alot of new players especicially when f2p launches. just an idea
