I have played LOTRO since couple of years ago, but only on the side of the Free Peoples (freeps). I never reached levels needed for PvMP (players vs. monster players). Recently I started my first char on the Monster play (creeps) and found that it is extremely difficult to fit in the gameplay with other players. Luckily, I was helped by good players to learn a little about PvMP and start leveling. But there are still many beginners who come to play and enjoy LOTRO, but being turned away, laughed at, and plainly ignored by other players.
[indent]Everyone has to start somewhere and all of us (except the genially gifted, who were probably born in the moors) come into the play with very limited knowledge. The acronyms, abbreviations, and the slang can be difficult to understand to those who don’t know the map, and it can be at times annoying to explain it for the 20th time in the OOC chat. Let's help each other - here we can post list of abbreviation used commonly in chat, beginners' tips, answers for the FAQs and just some helpful information to those whose rings are green (or even blue) and infamy is at zero for already some time.
Before going to the Ettenmoors, please check out the map of the region, including landmarks and quest givers here:
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Special:Interactivemap
(Choose The Ettenmoors region and pick all checkboxes)
Do not ask too many questions in the OOC chat at random – try to find someone who wants to help you (preferably group with you) and ask him/her to answer your questions and help get you your first map.
Get your maps!!! Groups usually travel a lot, and at speed. It can be detrimental to group’s success waiting for one player to come to a specific spot.
About maps – there are different maps that will get you instantly to a particular point on the map. To get those maps you will need to complete quest around the Ettenmoors. The maps can be of different quality, with better maps having shorter cool down timers.
Be careful in the slug bogs, resurrection spots and near the TA. These are the favorite spots of burglars to sneak up on new players and earn some easy infamy.
Be wary of what you say in the OOC chat – there are creeps spies – people with two accounts that monitor several chats and supply useful info to freeps.
