First impressions and a couple of q's

I've played mmo's since There beta (not really a game but it was fun). Moved on to SWG the day after the CU then WoW almost year after the NGE ruined SWG. Been playing wow since and continue to play wow.

I was lucky to get a beta invite to Lotro f2p beta, having never played lotro before. So far I've gotten a RK in beta to level 13 and I really enjoy the RK class.

So far the most enjoyable parts are the stories in the quests and the music and environment, the clouds are amazing.

The least favorite is crafting, being overly complicated with sub parts to craft, etc. and the vendors have so many items on it's not very enjoyable to find things. Adding a search feature that you could type into might help.

Another very large negative for me is an issue that most mmo's seem to suffer from....sliding avatars/mounts, etc. Wow may look cartoonish but the immersion is high because when your character walks or runs they really look like they are walking or running, you don't do a MJ moonwalk across the landscape. Lotro isn't as bad as others but it still breaks immersion frequently for me.

Mounting/dismounting...takes too long. Probably spoiled from wow but it's really too long. :) Not being able to dismount with any spell cast or attack is also somewhat annoying.

Store prices seem a decent amount higher than what I would expect. Which brings me to my questions...

I plan on playing Lotro on live, I'm really interested in seeing end game in Lotro now that I've seen the beginning. I thought I had read somewhere when I signed up for beta that the characters you leveled would be available in live (minus store bought perks, etc.) but I can't find the source of that claim and everything I've read so far in the past two days points to that not being true.

So my question is would it be in my favor to purchase Mirkwood from the online store and get the 30-day sub now and start leveling on live? At this time I plan to be subscriber for a number of months, at least until I've seen end game and decide if I enjoy it or not. If I did purchase Mirkwood would the free 30-day sub count to be VIP then if I took a break would I then be a Premium account?

Also, if I did purchase Mirkwood now and downgraded to Premium would I still be able to access the content contained within Mirkwood, Moria, etc.? (I hope I'm understanding how this all works).

Is there a good description of the different live servers? :)

Thanks in advance!
