I didn't see an existing post about my problem.
I'm a f2p player, just started, standard quality graphics, older computer, nvidia 7600gs video card, DirectX 9c. Every once in a while, for no readily apparent reason, LOTRO and my entire computer will freeze up. No mouse, no alt-tab, no ctrl-alt-delete, nothing. I've run with lots of graphical goodies turned on, such as bloom, shadows, floating names, and reflections. I've also turned all that stuff off, and frozen up anyway. The last half-second of sound/music plays in a continuous loop, and I get a frozen screen image, until I hit the Reset button.
My problem may be related to moving from one area to another, or at least looking at a new area, because it usually happens while i'm moving, but has happened at least once while I was turning in place. Presence of other players is not a factor. My antivirus claims it might be responsible and reverts itself to an earlier version, but it does that any time I rest twice in rapid succession. (I know this due to programming errors I've made that forced me to reset to break an infinite loop.)
One of the first fixes I tried was blowing the dust out of the case. It's only happened in or entering the Bree-Lands, but that's where I've spent most of my time so that may not be relevant.
Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it?
