First time Crafter

so I'm trying to break into everything in this game. I've got a nice progress rate going. a Captain in my mid twenties, enjoying the game. I'm even enjoying following along in the book. My next frontier is something I've put off. I took the quest from Archet, chose to be a historian, but pretty much just let it sit after that. The only thing I've bothered to level is Farming because it gives me a nice change of pace. I like the self-sufficient nature of the craft. No gathering, just plant seeds and farm. I found scholar to be a pain and weaponsmith just seems to sit there. I'm considering a new vocation. I'e run down the list and Explorer seems to be the choice for firsts. I've also heard tinker thrown around a bit. I'm not trying to min/max my character by any means. Profit is the last thing on my mind. I like doing all the activities on the side. Fishing is nice. I've got some nice trophies for my house when I get it. I'm looking to expand my crafting experience by what is fun, rather than what will make me rich. I'm considering a switch to Yeoman. I can farm and cook till my hearts content and get loads of consumable food. I would benefit marginally from tailor, with cosmetics and armaments. I do like the idea of going into battle with "my" banner equipped, give it a nice touch. On another note it makes my character "feel" more believable. Being a farmer seems more down to earth then being a Jeweler or Scholar, considering my class and roots. I haven't looked into some of the vocations. I'm just trying to stay away from gathering. I tried explorer and I felt like gouging my eyes out. Gathering is boring to me, and I can't really "produce" anything. I guess the same can be said for my farming, however, maybe it's just me. Any other vocations I should look into given my interests and class, and is fishing the only hobby?
